Dante Days 2026

In Foligno , from 8 to 12 April 2026, the Dante Days (Giornate Dantesche) take place, a programme of events dedicated to Dante and the cultural legacy of the Divine Comedy. The 2026 edition focuses on the 11th canto of Paradise, devoted to Saint Francis, marking the eight hundredth anniversary of his death.

The event is closely connected to the city’s history, as Foligno was the place where the first printed edition of the Divine Comedy was produced on 11 April 1472. The programme includes lectures, conferences, public readings and discussions with Dante scholars, together with activities aimed at the general public and schools.

An introductory event is scheduled on 25 March, on the occasion of Dantedì, with the presentation of a new facsimile edition of the 1472 editio princeps of the Divine Comedy, enriched with graphic works by contemporary artist Carlos Garaicoa. At Palazzo Trinci, a video mapping installation will offer visitors an immersive experience inspired by the canto of Paradise.

Highlights include the Dante Marathon, featuring a complete public reading of Paradise, the book fair “Pagine a corte” dedicated to Dante and the Middle Ages, and a series of presentations and discussions. The project “Commediando” involves secondary school students from several Italian regions in creative reinterpretations of the 11th canto of Paradise, culminating in a public performance.

The programme also features workshops on medieval culture, exploring themes such as food, clothing and music in Dante’s time. A concert of medieval music, accompanied by readings from the Canticle of the Creatures and texts attributed to Saint Francis, is also scheduled.
