The first section follows paved roads. Beyond Macerino, the route continues along quiet country lanes and then onto trails, crossing areas of unspoilt wilderness before reaching the Romita di Cesi. This ancient Franciscan convent, which until around twenty years ago lay in ruins and complete abandonment, has since been restored and brought back to life as both a place of prayer and a welcoming refuge for pilgrims travelling along the route.
