The stage retraces, in the opposite direction, one of Saint Francis’s most important journeys. The first section leaving Gubbio is on paved roads; the route then continues along a dirt road and, after reaching the ridge, enters the valley of the Chiascio River.

The stage retraces, in the opposite direction, one of Saint Francis’s most important journeys. The first section leaving Gubbio is on paved roads; the route then continues along a dirt road and, after reaching the ridge, enters the valley of the Chiascio River.

It then reaches the small Church of Le Ripe, where memories of the passage of pilgrims are still preserved. From here, the route begins to climb through conifer woods, leading to the Hermitage of San Pietro in Vigneto, built by the Benedictines using materials recovered from the ruins of a pagan temple.
