DeMusicAssisi 2026
From 4 to 9 August, the historic centre of Assisi hosts the fourth edition of DeMusicAssisi, a medieval music festival staged across multiple venues in the lanes and squares of the Umbrian city. The theme of this edition is Gloriosus Franciscus, devoted to the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi and his relationship with music in its many forms between the 13th and 15th centuries.
The programme includes concerts, lectures and seminars exploring the soundscape of the Franciscan Middle Ages, ranging from Assisi and Umbria to distant geographical and cultural horizons — from Northern Europe to the Middle East — tracing the musical traditions that shaped thirteenth-century Western thought. Themes addressed include poverty, devotion, the vernacular, liturgy, celebration, sacred and profane love, and death: all central dimensions of the Franciscan worldview.
Alongside the musical events, the festival offers a lutherie market exhibition, roving street performances, workshops and educational activities for adults and children, and a medieval tavern.
All events are free admission.
