Ocriculum AD 168 - 2026

From 29 to 31 May, the Ocriculum Archaeological Area in Otricoli hosts the 13th edition of Ocriculum AD 168, a historical reenactment event dedicated to the Roman city of Ocriculum during the time of Marcus Aurelius. For three days, the archaeological site comes back to life through living history activities, experimental archaeology, performances and reconstructions of everyday Roman life.

The 2026 theme, “Nunc est bibendum”, takes inspiration from Horace’s famous expression and explores the role of wine in the Roman world as an agricultural, ritual, economic and cultural element. The programme develops through rituals, talks, workshops, tastings, music and educational activities focused on the production, trade and use of wine in antiquity.

Throughout the event, visitors can explore reconstructed areas of the ancient city, including military camps, tabernae, the river port, theatres and sacred spaces, meeting legionaries, craftsmen, musicians, priests, gladiators and other figures from Roman society. The programme also includes conferences, guided tours, theatrical and musical performances, ritual processions, military reenactments and activities connected to navigation on the Tiber River.

Experiential workshops dedicated to ancient crafts, arts and daily practices will also be available, including activities related to writing, weaving, baking, gladiatorial and military training, dance and traditional craftsmanship.
