Poster of Tesori all'Isola. Il mistero dei trenta denari in Perugia

Tesori all'Isola - "Il mistero dei trenta denari" 2026

From 20 March to 10 May 2026Isola San Lorenzo – Museo del Capitolo in Perugia hosts the new edition of Tesori all’Isola, entitled Il mistero dei trenta denari. The exhibition presents a processional cross from Montepetriolo, dating from the late fifteenth to the early sixteenth century, offering an opportunity to explore a work connected to the artistic history of the local territory.

The cross stands out for decorative elements that recall Roman coins and small medallions depicting the face of Medusa. These unusual details for a liturgical object suggest a dialogue between Christian symbolism and references to the ancient world.

Starting from these elements, the exhibition reflects on the theme of the thirty pieces of silver, linked to the figure of Judas Iscariot in the Gospel account of the Passion. The coin thus becomes a symbolic element that runs through religious and iconographic traditions.

Alongside the cross, two objects from the museum’s collections—usually not on public display—are presented: an 8th-century Gospel book and an Etruscan urn dating from the 3rd–2nd century BC. Originating from different historical periods, these works contribute to a dialogue between images, symbols and traditions.

During the exhibition period, guided tours are available on weekends, lasting approximately 45 minutes.
