Vita minore. Saint Francis and the Holiness of Contemporary Art

In Spoleto, from February 21 to early June 2026, Palazzo Collicola presents the group exhibition Vita minore. Saint Francis and the Holiness of Contemporary Art, inaugurated on February 21 at 11:00 am. Curated by Gianni and Giuseppe Garrera, the project marks the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi and offers a contemporary reinterpretation of his figure.

The exhibition explores the idea of Francis through fragments reflected in contemporary artworks, establishing a dialogue between historical memory and present-day artistic research. The display includes works from the curators’ private collections, assembled over more than twenty years, alongside national and international loans and site-specific projects created for the palace.

Centered on the concept of “minority” as humility and service, the exhibition addresses themes such as poverty, renunciation of power, relationship with nature, the Gospel, and active holiness, also referring to Saint Clare and female spiritual experience. Works by artists including Alberto Burri, Gino De Dominicis, Jimmie Durham, Leoncillo, Yoko Ono, Giulio Paolini, Salvo, Luca Bertolo, Matteo Fato, Flavio Favelli, Cesare Pietroiusti, Tomas Saraceno and Luca Vitone contribute to a reflection on the contemporary relevance of Franciscan thought.
